Winery Operations Technician

Acclaimed California winery is seeking a diligent, hardworking Winery Operations Technician with a “safety first” attitude for their Healdsburg location.

The Winery Operations Technician is responsible for keeping the winery running smoothly, including supervision of the bottling line, repairing winery equipment, and overseeing facility operations. This is a “hands on” position. The ideal candidate will be proactive, well organized, and experienced in overall facility maintenance and bottling operations.

The Winery Operations Technician is responsible for keeping the winery running smoothly, including supervision of the bottling line, repairing winery equipment, and overseeing facility operations. This is a “hands on” position. The ideal candidate will be proactive, well organized, and experienced in overall facility maintenance and bottling operations.

This person will be responsible for all preventative maintenance, repairs, and troubleshooting services for all winery processing equipment including crusher/destemmers, presses, pumps, filters, etc.

This individual will work closely with the Winery Operations Manager to implement capital projects to support facility upgrades and expansion.  This person will support emergency calls (during or after hours), support safety programs and ensure Cal-OSHA compliance, and perform preventative maintenance on all systems according to schedule.

The person in this position is required to work outside of normal working hours during harvest and other busy periods as needed, conduct work at heights and lift/carry equipment weighing up to 60 pounds. This individual must possess a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.  Knowledge of wastewater systems is important.

Qualified candidates will have at least two years of experience running/maintaining a minimum 60bpm bottling line and at least two years of experience in winery facility maintenance. This person should have skills in HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and carpentry.  The Winery Operations Technician must possess the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing and use a computer and Microsoft Office software.

This individual will be responsible for all aspects of benefits and payroll, including processing timesheets and payroll, maintaining current and accurate employee information, handling payroll and benefits questions, and completing other related tasks.

This individual will be responsible for all aspects of benefits and payroll, including processing timesheets and payroll, maintaining current and accurate employee information, handling payroll and benefits questions, and completing other related tasks.

The Payroll and Benefits Coordinator will be responsible for, but not limited to, developing contacts for recruitment of internal staff, conducting new employee orientations and exit interviews, and coordinating the performance evaluation process, as well as assisting in company safety training.  This person will also be responsible for coordinating open enrollment with benefits broker, answering benefits questions, and serving as a liaison between employees and benefits broker.

This person will also work closely with, and take direction from, the President, Controller and HR Consultants, and will provide various ad-hoc reports as requested by President or Controller.

The ideal candidate must be highly detail oriented and have the ability to see tasks and projects through to completion.  This person will have excellent written and verbal communication skills to interface with all levels within and outside the company.  This person will exhibit sound judgement, maintain confidentiality, and be flexible and adaptable to constantly changing priorities and deadlines.  Some knowledge of Federal and State employment laws is required. Experience working with IBS Payroll is a plus.

Qualified candidates will have a bachelor’s degree, HR or business administration preferred, with a minimum of two years of experience in a California-based business working in HR, benefits, and payroll administration

Assistant Production Winemaker

Our client is seeking an Assistant Production Winemaker to join their growing bottling facility team in Santa Rosa. All work is performed within the company’s production facility.  Because this is a production facility, there is no involvement with harvesting grapes.  Working closely with the Winemaker, the Assistant Production Winemaker is responsible for the coordination and oversight of all winemaking processes to ensure effective and efficient operations. The position involves managing cellar operations on a day-to-day basis, including carrying out wine movements and additions, maintaining barrels, organizing and purchasing equipment and supplies, performing some lab work, recordkeeping, crossflow filtration, etc.  The position involves a high level of responsibility, and also requires an acute attention to detail and the ability to organize and work efficiently without daily supervision.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Coordinate and review all activities involved in the daily operations of the wine cellar, including bulk wine receipt, blending, fining, filtrations, sanitation of cellar equipment and bottling line, on-time delivery of wine to the bottling line
  • Prepare daily work plans and deliver to Cellar Supervisor
  • Coordinate with the Cellar Supervisor to manage cellar staff schedules and workflow
  • Monitor quality of work; assure staff conforms to organizational policies and procedure and government regulations
  • Maintain quality of bulk wine inventory
  • Assist in maintaining records for all internal wine movements
  • Assist in development of procedural and quality control manuals
  • Assist in the preparation of short and long term production plans and bulk wine inventory requirements
  • Provide day-to day guidance and oversight of Cellar Supervisor; actively work to promote and recognize performance
  • Responsible for understanding the ISO Quality Policy as well as the company HAACP requirements
  • Provide requisite ISO training to cellar staff and as needed manage the process of updating pertinent ISO SOP’s, documents and forms
  • Coordinate bulk wine shipments as directed by winemaker, including preparation of bills of lading as needed
  • Keep abreast of wine industry trends including product development and quality evaluation

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Enology, Viticulture, Fermentation Science, or related field (or equivalent education and experience)
  • 2-3 years Production Winemaking experience
  • 1 year supervisory experience
  • Management and knowledge of bottling production scheduling and process
  • Strong analytical, interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
  • Working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet and email applications
  • Must be organized and detail-oriented with the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
